Shloka of the day Monday, 19 January 2026

One Sanskrit verse a day from the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Vedas, subhashitas and well-known stotras, with transliteration and meaning. 132 verses in rotation.

Bhagavad Gita 2.27

jātasya hi dhruvo mṛtyurdhruvaṃ janma mṛtasya ca |

tasmādaparihārye'rthe na tvaṃ śocitumarhasi ||

Meaning

Death is certain for whatever is born, and birth for whatever dies. So you should not grieve over what cannot be avoided.

The meaning is our own short paraphrase, not a word-for-word translation.
