श्रेयश्च प्रेयश्च मनुष्यमेतस्तौ सम्परीत्य विविनक्ति धीरः ।śreyaśca preyaśca manuṣyametastau samparītya vivinakti dhīraḥ |
श्रेयो हि धीरोऽभि प्रेयसो वृणीते प्रेयो मन्दो योगक्षेमाद्वृणीते ॥śreyo hi dhīro'bhi preyaso vṛṇīte preyo mando yogakṣemādvṛṇīte ||

Meaning
The good and the pleasant both come to a person. The wise examine them and choose the good over the pleasant; the foolish choose the pleasant for the sake of getting and keeping.
श्रेय (कल्याण) और प्रेय (प्रिय) दोनों मनुष्य के सामने आते हैं। धीर पुरुष विचार कर प्रेय की अपेक्षा श्रेय को चुनता है; मन्दबुद्धि लाभ और संग्रह के लिए प्रेय को चुनता है।
