The factors and their sources

Moon-sign lords (Graha Maitri)
The natural friendship of the planets ruling the two Moon signs, looked at from both sides.
Source: Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra ch. 3 (natural relationships); Graha Maitri table of Muhurta Chintamani, Vivaha prakarana
Tara between janma nakshatras
Counting the nakshatras from one person's janma nakshatra to the other's gives one of nine Taras. Vipat (3), Pratyak (5) and Vadha (7) are unfavourable; Janma (1) is mixed.
Source: Tara bala, Muhurta Chintamani (nine Taras); the same count as the Tara (Dina) koota
Mutual placement of Moon signs
How many signs apart the two Moon signs are. The 6/8 (shadashtaka) and 2/12 (dwirdwadasha) relations are listed as unfavourable.
Source: Bhakoot rule, Muhurta Chintamani, Vivaha prakarana (2/12 and 6/8); Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (trikona houses)
Lagna lords
The natural friendship of the planets ruling the two ascendants. Needs the exact birth time of both people.
Source: Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra ch. 3 (natural relationships)

The texts do not prescribe separate factors for business, friendship or work, so the same factors are shown for every relationship type. Traditions vary.
