Emerald (Panna) — the gem of Mercury (Budh)
Emerald (Panna), the traditional gem of Mercury (Budh): substitute stones, metal, finger and day, strong cautions, and the traditional times to first wear it at your place.
Please read before wearing any gem
- Wearing a gem for a graha is a traditional practice. No result is promised, and its effects have not been established scientifically.
- A gem strengthens its graha in every role the graha plays in a chart. Wear one only after a qualified astrologer has examined your whole chart; never choose a gem from your sign alone.
- A gem is never a substitute for medical, psychological or other professional care. Do not stop or delay any treatment because of a gem.
- Blue sapphire (Neelam), hessonite (Gomed) and cat’s eye (Lahsuniya) are traditionally handled with particular caution; many astrologers advise them only after careful study.
- Traditional texts value only natural stones without flaws. Ask for a report from a recognised gem-testing laboratory: treated, synthetic and imitation stones are common.
- Prices vary enormously with size, quality, origin and treatment. Be wary of urgency, fear-based advice or claims that a costly stone is the only remedy.
- Udyog Jyotish does not sell gems and has no arrangement with any seller. The mantra, worship and charity remedies on the Remedies pages need nothing to be bought.

Substitute stones (uparatna), the metal of the setting and the finger: modern convention found in present-day gem and astrology manuals; no classical verse is known for them, and practitioners differ
When to first wear it Beta
Times at your place in the next 30 days (from 29/10/2026 (Thu)) when the common conventions for first wearing Emerald (Panna) hold.
Not yet reviewed
This wearing-time rule has not yet been reviewed by the automated Jyotish review. It combines the common conventions listed here, and traditions differ: confirm the time with your astrologer or family priest.
- Day: Wednesday (Budhvar), the day of the graha.
- Time: the hora of Mercury (Budh) after sunrise (the 1st or 8th hora of the day).
- Not in a Rikta tithi (Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi) or Amavasya, not in Bhadra (Vishti karana) and not in Rahu Kaal.
- Nakshatra: Ashwini, Pushya, Hasta, Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha, Revati — the Kshipra and Mridu stars that Muhurta Chintamani names for ornaments.
- Shukla paksha (waxing Moon) is preferred: it is shown, not required.
Day and hora of the graha: common practice in gem-wearing manuals (no classical verse cited); Rahu like Saturn and Ketu like Mars ("shanivad rahuh, kujavat ketuh"); Rikta tithis, Amavasya, Bhadra and Rahu Kaal avoided as for every auspicious beginning; Kshipra and Mridu nakshatras for ornaments: Muhurta Chintamani, Nakshatra Prakarana
