Mantra

अग्निर्मूर्धा दिवः ककुत्पतिः पृथिव्या अयम् ।agnirmūrdhā divaḥ kakutpatiḥ pṛthivyā ayam |

अपां रेतांसि जिन्वति ॥apāṃ retāṃsi jinvati ||

The Roman line is IAST transliteration derived from the Devanagari (ā = long a, ṃ = anusvara, ḥ = visarga, ś/ṣ = sh sounds, c = ch as in “church”). In Hindi, Awadhi and Braj texts the silent final “a” is dropped. Transliteration does not show Vedic accents.

Traditional context

In the Rigveda the verse praises Agni; the graha-shanti tradition applies it to Mangala, who is called Bhauma (son of the earth). The association is traditional.
