Shloka of the day

Shloka of the day Sunday, 5 July 2026

One Sanskrit verse a day from the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Vedas, subhashitas and well-known stotras, with transliteration and meaning. 132 verses in rotation.

Guru Gita

gururbrahmā gururviṣṇuḥ gururdevo maheśvaraḥ |

guruḥ sākṣāt paraṃ brahma tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ ||

Meaning

The guru is Brahma, the guru is Vishnu, the guru is the god Maheshvara; the guru is the supreme Brahman itself. Salutations to that revered guru.

The meaning is our own short paraphrase, not a word-for-word translation.
