Shloka of the day

Shloka of the day Tuesday, 26 May 2026

One Sanskrit verse a day from the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Vedas, subhashitas and well-known stotras, with transliteration and meaning. 132 verses in rotation.

Amritabindu Upanishad 2

mana eva manuṣyāṇāṃ kāraṇaṃ bandhamokṣayoḥ |

bandhāya viṣayāsaktaṃ muktyai nirviṣayaṃ smṛtam ||

Meaning

The mind alone is the cause of bondage and freedom. Attached to sense objects it binds; free of them it liberates.

The meaning is our own short paraphrase, not a word-for-word translation.
