Shloka of the day

Shloka of the day Sunday, 8 February 2026

One Sanskrit verse a day from the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Vedas, subhashitas and well-known stotras, with transliteration and meaning. 132 verses in rotation.

Maha Upanishad (also Hitopadesha 1.71) 6.71

ayaṃ nijaḥ paro veti gaṇanā laghucetasām |

udāracaritānāṃ tu vasudhaiva kuṭumbakam ||

Meaning

“This one is mine, that one a stranger” is the reckoning of the narrow-minded. For the large-hearted, the whole earth is one family.

The meaning is our own short paraphrase, not a word-for-word translation.
