• Avoid Rahu Kaal
• Avoid Bhadra (Vishti karana)
• Not in Vyatipata or Vaidhriti yoga (forbidden whole)
• Not during Chaturmas (Devshayani to Devutthana Ekadashi)
• Jupiter and Venus not combust (Guru/Shukra asta, by the rising and setting rule of the official Rashtriya Panchang)
• Jupiter and Venus not just risen or about to set (Guru/Shukra bala and vriddha, Muhurta Chintamani day counts)
• Not in Adhik (Mal) Maas
• Daytime only (sunrise to sunset)
• Forenoon only (sunrise to midday), not in the afternoon

• Uttarayana preferred (Sun from Makara to Karka Sankranti, sidereal)
• Upanayana months preferred: Magha to Jyeshtha (Amanta)
• Avoid Yamaganda

• Avoid Varjyam
• Avoid Vishkambha, Atiganda, Shula, Ganda, Vyaghata, Vajra and Parigha yogas (classically only their opening ghatis; the whole yoga is flagged)
