About

Udyog Jyotish is a Panchang and Jyotish platform for India and the Indian diaspora. Every timing on it is computed from astronomy for the place and moment you ask about.

What this site does

It answers the questions a Panchang is kept for:

How the timings are calculated

Nothing here is looked up in a printed table or copied from another site. Positions of the Sun, Moon and planets are computed for the exact latitude, longitude and moment in question, and the Panchang elements are derived from them. Sunrise and sunset use the standard refraction and the observer's horizon, so a city's timings are its own and not a nearby metro's.

The ayanamsa, the sunrise definition and every rule that decides a festival date or a Muhurat window are documented, and each rule names the classical text or official almanac it follows. The engine is checked against the Rashtriya Panchang (the Government of India's almanac), USNO sunrise and moon-phase data and other published references, and the differences that remain are listed rather than hidden. The full account is on the calculation methodology page.

Where the tradition itself disagrees, the site says so and lets you choose a calculation profile rather than pretending there is one answer.

Languages and access

The site is published in Hindi and English, with ten more Indian languages in progress: Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi and Nepali.

It works without an account and without JavaScript, installs as an app, and keeps the next few days of Panchang available offline. An account adds saved birth profiles, reminders and saved Muhurats.

Who runs it and how it is funded

The site is funded by advertising and by a small number of paid reports; the Panchang, calendar, festivals, Muhurat, Kundli and Milan results are free. What advertising means for your data is set out on the privacy page.

Corrections are welcome. If a date or a timing here disagrees with your family tradition or your local almanac, write to us with the details — the rule and its source are shown on the page, so a disagreement is usually about which rule applies, and that is worth knowing about.
